Miranda Thompson, MSW

Associate Director, Communications & Impact Storytelling

Miranda Thompson comes to Mindful Philanthropy with nearly a decade of experience across philanthropy, international development, and design. She previously served as a Programs and Research Associate at Mindful Philanthropy, where she supported funder collaborations and advised philanthropic institutions on strategic giving in mental health and well-being. Miranda’s work has been anchored in elevating community-driven interventions with a focus on storytelling, partnership, and capacity building to catalyze systems change.

Now, as Associate Director, Communications & Impact Storytelling at Mindful Philanthropy, Miranda draws on her combined expertise in design, strategic communications, and philanthropy to lead content, branding, and storytelling initiatives that illuminate the power of mental health giving and inspire deeper impact.

Miranda’s passion for mental health stems from her experience as a social worker in immigrant and refugee communities and complex crisis settings. As the child of frontline workers, she is particularly interested in addressing mental health workforce challenges and care navigation initiatives. Miranda also volunteers as a mentor with the Chicago-based nonprofit GirlForward and enjoys running, live music, ceramics, and other creative pursuits in her free time.

She holds an A.M. in Social Work and Social Policy from the University of Chicago, specializing in Global Social Development Practice, and a B.S. in Design from the University of Cincinnati.
